Hair salon
Hi, today I'm gonna talk about hair salon which considered had good environmental design elements.
These are some salon images that I took from Google Image. The reason I took it is because the neat look of the salon. By having a shampoo or product display in front of their salon, people who pass by may notice this is a salon and roughly what service they provide.
Usually, a salon is 'noticeable' because they always have big mirror and adjustable chair.
Would you do your hair cut in this kind of salon?
By looking at their interior design, I would like to say yes. This is because their had a nice interior design that make me wanted to go in. Besides, a nice looking environment really tell people that you are serious in this job. You wanted to give the best service to your customers. It do show your passion to the customers.
In another perspective, a good design like this may make people think that it is costly to had a hair cut in your salon. I admit I am a illiberal person. I wont spend a lot to have a hair cut ( hair is always grow, can you imagine how much you spent for it?)
Base on my research, a good environmental design have to find out who is the target audience. For example, the luxury salon mention above may not targeted on university student like me. They may targeted on people that who willing to spent for their hair job =P

Classical prudent design may have always considered environmental factors; however, the environmental movement beginning in the 1940s has made the concept more explicit.
After few lecture during the class, I understand that environmental design is about create something more like an architectural stuff which may related to buildings.
One of the point for environmental design is about to carry out a theme or a mood. Which a theme, the concept of design may not successfully apply to the object. If there is too messy, it will only give distraction to the visitor or the viewer but not bring them into your design.
There are some image that I get from Google Image which inspired me =)
In this picture, it is more like a combination of natural and modern building structure. By using grey colour on the iron frame, it neutral the colour between the structure and the environment. It shows the mood of relax and peace.
This is quite interesting when I first saw it. According to the picture, I think this is kind of a exhibition. The white thing looks like cloud when the background area was tinted with blue.
This interior design do looks creative! I like the way they play with the shape. In my opinion, this design can be an office of design company office! It show a good working environment. Their client will leave good impression when during the first came =D
For the last image, I am not sure that whether this a 3D model of a design concept of a real building. The shape and design of the building is daring a modern looking! This looks more like a building that we can get in science fiction.

Out for Directory Sign
The First Location - Ikano Power Center
These were the directory sign that can be found near the main escalators The categories for different department in the shopping mall in written in the sign board above. In my opinion, I don't think this kind of directory sign was clearly states the locations in the complex. Since it is just defined in different categories, visitor may not get to the certain shop in a direct way. Besides, it will be difficult for people that could not read.
I am satisfy for this kind of directory sign design. Firstly, it is well present in a simple way. By using the universal symbol, people may easily understand where is the arrow leading to compare to reading word. The only problem for this is the symbol above were too small to see. Visitors may not see where will be lead to from further side.
The Second Location - The Curve
This a directory sign that can get at the main entrance. It roughly showed the location in the mall which gave a simple direction guide to the visitors. Compare to the directory sign in Ikano, this sign looks more interesting because it apply colour to the design.
After that, there is another sign board for guilding visitors to shops in G level. It clearly stated with shop name. Althought it looks clean and tidy, I will prefer that the use back the logo or font design of the shop because it will looks more familiar to the visitors.
In the middle of the mall, there was a detail directory sign. Since the previous sign were too roughly, it is good to have a detail one especially for the visitors who came here for the first time.
Below the ceilling, there were also directory sign that showed some main location. The idea of this design was good by using combination of symbol and word. The glowing word on the sign board allow visitors to see it clearly.
Besides that, directory sign on the wall also good enough for visitors who looking for certain places.
Level and location directory sign that can get beside lifts also important since people usually may stop there waiting for lifts. In this case, they can take their time to read and check where are they and where can they go to.
